Play AutoTyper code ScytheMovement codeThis game is made for a school course called: ‘Game Mechanics’. In this course we had to create three games/prototypes with different themes. We had to do this in a time period of two weeks for each game. For this game the theme was dynamics, which is basically ‘create a boss fight’. I immediately thought of ‘Terraria’, ‘Shadow of the Colossus’ and ‘World of Warcraft’; games that partly or completely revolve around boss fights.
My first boss fight included some elements of these games. The first phase was inspired by ‘Shadow of the Colossus’, where you have to fight giant bosses whom you can climb on. In the second phase the boss shrinks and he casts
a shadow field around him. You can avoid this field by standing in light. In the third and final phase the gravity is turned off. The boss teleports randomly in the room while firing a giant ‘laser’.
Creating all of this in two weeks while having to deal with other school assignments proved to be too much work and unfortunately I had to shorten the boss fight to only one phase.
As mentioned above, I had to shorten the boss fight. So I chose to focus on the first phase, where a giant boss with a scythe swings around while the player has to avoid getting hit. I won't elaborate too much on how the boss fight works. If you want to know more about the boss fight, you have to play the game :P. In the first iteration the player immediately started in the boss room. Placing the player in the boss fight right away is a bit weird and probably confusing to the player. Thus, I created an opening level/tutorial for the boss fight in which the player gets introduced to the mechanics.
I might continue developing this game in the future; creating those phases I mentioned and maybe creating the full game with more bosses, quests, levels etc.
